Local Yogis Unite and Support 24-Hour Yogathon to Keep Yoga Affordable for Asheville Community
Just a few days remain before Asheville Community Yoga supporters, yogis, yoginis and enthusiasts combine forces to participate in 24 hours of yoga to support the local studio’s expansion. The “Yoga-Thon” event will be led by executive director Michael Greenfield, in Asheville. Simultaneously, local surgeon and ACY board member Dr. Chris Lechner will be swimming 80 miles across Lake Michigan, a feat that will require the skills he has acquired through practicing yoga. These concurrent events hope to raise $100,000 to expand the Asheville Community Yoga studio in order to accommodate the recent growth and incorporate additional services and outreach for the community.
Asheville Community Yoga is a non-profit, donation-based studio, toting the mantra of making yoga accessible to everyone. If that isn’t incredible enough, teachers at this studio are extremely gifted, highly trained, and extraordinarily passionate. Better yet, they teach yoga for FREE. As an added bonus, the studio also provides all materials – mats, blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, and even lavender eye pillows—all at no charge to students to use during their practice. This studio has been voted the #1 studio by the Mountain Express in Asheville for the last four years, a commendable recognition for a city in no immediate shortage of high-caliber yoga studios.
“In today’s fast-paced, stress-filled, anxiety-ridden and depression-saturated society, it is no revelation that yoga is quickly becoming both acknowledged and accepted by rigorous research institutions as a tool to bring people out of sickness and into health,” said Alexis Rachkovsky, a regular yoga student at Asheville Community Yoga and Clinical Support Representative at Sanesco International, Inc.
Sanesco International, an Asheville based bio-medical company, shares the same mission and vision of helping people restore balance and improve quality of life. The company has organized a team to support the cause and participate in the event.
Sanesco specializes in a clinical model, which assesses neurotransmitters and adrenal hormones through non-invasive methodology. Patients’ laboratory values are correlated to their self-reported symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, fatigue, weight gain and insomnia, and then Sanesco’s clinical team delicately transcribes this information into a comprehensive, individualized patient report for the patient’s doctor to review. Each patient report is personalized and comes complete with nutritional recommendations for all-natural, amino-acid based supplements which correct for imbalances revealed in the testing. These supplements contain no corn, sugar, gluten, preservatives, lactose, soy protein or artificial colors.
