A Holistic Approach to Healthcare Across the Lifespan

The 2017 Integrative Healthcare Conference, an annual regional event held by Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC), took place in Asheville, NC on Saturday, April 29th. The conference focused on integrative healthcare—an evidence-based, multi-disciplinary approach to patient care encompassing mind, body, and spirit, making it a natural fit within Sanesco’s corporate sponsorship calendar of events.

“MAHEC supports regional educational events where health care providers across disciplines can come together to collaborate and learn about integrative health care approaches for patients of all ages,” said Ronnie Metcalf, MAHEC Continuing Education Planner. “Participants are provided with the opportunity to learn from expert practitioners and collaborate with professionals in the field of integrative medicine, and will return to their practices with information and insights that can be incorporated into direct patient care.”

Crossing Disciplines in Integrative HealthCare

The event hosted approximately 110 participants from throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. Attendees’ backgrounds were many and varied, including physicians, nurses and nurse practitioners, mental health providers, social workers, and counselors, all interested in a holistic approach to covering patients’ psychological, physical, emotional and social aspect of care.

Event topics included lifestyle modification, approaches to depression and anxiety, nutrition and diet trends, Tai Chi, Taekwondo, aromatherapy and pain management.

Integrative approaches for thyroid issues and pain management, as well as holistic psychiatry, were also addressed. Dr. Natalie Sadler discussed how neurotransmitter testing and nutritional support are included in her treatment approach.

The event gave Sanesco an opportunity to interact with local community members and healthcare providers interested in deepening their knowledge of integrative holistic care.

“Our goal is to help people feel better—to improve their quality of life,” said Alexis Rachkovsky, a Sanesco representative.  “By increasing awareness of non-pharmaceutical management options for depression, anxiety and insomnia, our clinical approach empowers both practitioners and patients.”

Materials available to conference attendees included a monograph by Sanesco’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Chip Watkins, discussing options and adjuncts to pharmaceutical treatments for depression and anxiety. The e-book is also available for free download on Sanesco’s home page.
