ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Accuracy, reproducibility and quality are key requirements of a good laboratory; but, what distinguishes the good labs from great labs? NeuroLab™, a division of Sanesco Health International specializing in the measurement of neurotransmitters and adrenal hormones, has met all criteria for Laboratory Accreditation by COLA, a national healthcare accreditation organization. Accreditation is given only to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey. NeuroLab™ has earned COLA accreditation as a result of long-term commitment to provide quality service to its patients.
For NeuroLab™ Laboratory Manager, Kara Brown, the decision to obtain COLA accreditation has required a lot of focus and attention to detail, not to mention time devoted to thoroughly reviewing hundreds of pages of governmental regulatory manuals.
“Achieving COLA accreditation is an accomplishment for any laboratory,” said Brown. “For us, it signifies more than regulatory compliance. It is a testament to our dedicated laboratory staff who day in and day out are committed to excellence.”
COLA is approved by the federal government and sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine.
NeuroLab™ was awarded COLA Accreditation on May 1, 2014 and must maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements until the laboratory’s next onsite review approximately 18-24 months from the date of their most recent biennial survey.
NeuroLab™ is the most advanced high-complexity clinical laboratory for the measurement of biomarkers relative to HPA-T (Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal-Thyroid) Axis function. NeuroLab™ has spared no expense in acquiring the technology and developing procedures in order to ensure that the patient laboratory values reported are accurate and reproducible. NeuroLab™ utilizes HPLC/MS/MS technology, a technology also used at leading research institutions, regarded as the ‘gold standard’ in measuring small molecules like neurotransmitters, in addition to other technology. NeuroLab™ currently measures six primary neurotransmitters related to HPA-T axis function: serotonin, GABA, dopamine, glutamate, norepinephrine and epinephrine, and the adrenal hormones: cortisol and DHEA. In addition to being CLIA and COLA Registered, NeuroLab™ is voluntarily enrolled in 3rd party quality control programs and proficiency testing with External Quality Assurance Services® (EQAS) and the College of American Pathology (CAP).
